The Madameek Restaurant on Victoria Street in Petawawa Ontario is a special place. Upon entering it you are greeted by the portraits of the 158 Canadian Forces members who were killed in the war in Afghanistan. Some call it a Wall of Honour.
The restaurant is owned by the Diab family, who moved to Canada from Lebanon in 2000. Their presence here is a way of honouring their son,Trooper Marc Diab of the Royal Canadian Dragoons, whose picture is among those on the entry wall.
In this documentary I produced for Tapestry, I tell the story of the Diab’s decision to settle in the last town their son called home, and their daily devotion to keeping his memory alive.
