Barch Levi Blum was born in late 2009 at Toronto’s Mt. Sinai Hospital. He lived for ten minutes.

And though Barch’s life was too short a life for an obituary, his mother found a way to memorialize him.

I was commissioned by independent producer Mary Beth Kirchner to record all of the sound for this piece, which included being at Joanne’s side within minutes of the death of her beloved son. I met with the mother, Joanne, in advance of the recording to talk about what to expect on the day of the recording, and to foster trust between us.
