The Office of the Ombudsman of Ontario is conducting a preliminary review of the co-ordination of non-emergency patient transfer services by the province. They want to hear from anyone with first-hand experience with this industry who has concerns about the quality of service and the kinds of incidents that are occurring within this unregulated industry. As well, they would like to hear from individuals or groups that have created policies, standards or systems in communities in Ontario to deal with the movement of non-urgent patients.
If you are a current or former worker in this industry, a patient or family member, or a health-care worker with knowledge of this industry, you can contact the Ombudsman’s Office directly by calling their toll-free number at 1-800-263-1830, and you can also email them at info@ombudsman.on.ca
For more information about the Ombudsman’s Office, visit their website http://www.ombudsman.on.ca/en.aspx
I am continuing to report on this industry, and would also welcome hearing from people who have complaints and concerns. I can offer anonymity to anyone not comfortable being identified in my reports.
I can be reached at tpittaway AT sympatico DOT ca

Thanks Tina! It’s about time
All Ontario patients should get the SAME standard of care from ANY Patient Transfer Service across the province.
I listened to the program on Risky Business which was broadcast on CBC The Sunday Addition and it was quite an eye opener for me. What a very interesting story. Thank you for bringing this story to the surface.
Congratulations on your award. Keep up the great work.
Best Regards,
Maggie Youngblut
Tina..I was moved by your reporting under the banner of “Risky Business”. I for one was involved in the ambulance service from its begining in Ontario. Firstly the O.A.O.A., the Hospital Services Commission, and finally the Ministry of Health Ambulance Services Branch. I am ashamed to say that I was partly responsible for the advancement of patient care within this system. As a supervisor with the land transfer fleet, all patients are entitled to the best care available, by the best trained staff utilizing acceptable means of transport. I would like to assist the ombudsman in his investigation as I feel I have alot of experience and ethics to offer.
Respectfully yours;
